Associate Professor Nobuo Saito of the Kenya Research Station, Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, has received the 8th Tsutomu Takeuchi Memorial International Award from the Ohyama Health Foundation.
This award was established in honor of Dr. Tsutomu Takeuchi and is presented to early-career researchers who have contributed to tropical medicine and parasitology in developing countries and are expected to make further significant contributions in the future.
Associate Professor Saito has contributed to strengthening diagnostic capacity in resource-limited settings through medical support for Myanmar refugees, the introduction of ultrasound diagnostics, and the establishment of laboratory systems at San Lazaro Hospital in the Philippines. As a JICA expert, he also led the implementation of rapid rabies diagnostics and One Health–based control strategies. He is currently advancing clinical research on tuberculosis at the Kenya Research Station.
He was recognized for his contributions to the implementation of diagnostic technologies in field settings and for building sustainable infectious disease control systems in developing countries.
