These meetings were held in Suba South (Kentab Hall) and Ndhiwa (Village Resort Hall) on November 25th and December 2nd, 2025, respectively. We invited all PHOs, CHAs, and Sub-county and County health officers, and the overall attendance was good, with a total of about 90 participants across the two sub-counties.
The main objective of these meetings was;
- To officially inform the health teams about the exit of the program by Nagasaki University.
- To present the overall performance of the project, i.e, Results, Impact, and achievements
- To identify the remaining jigger cases and discuss the necessary approaches moving forward.
- To have a clear report on how both sub-counties intend to enable the project’s sustainability.
The project presentation was done by Ms. Sharon Anam and Ms. Shiho Hara. They reported the package of activities that were done and showed how the targeted 2 sub-counties have decreased the cases by about 97%.
Both sub-counties also presented detailed reports with more focus on surveillance per community Units.
They were very appreciative of the collaborative efforts by Nagasaki University staff towards control of such a neglected tropical disease, and the results were of great impact among the affected and infected community members.
JICA-NUITM was more focused on the sustainability of the project, and thus, a group discussion per ward was done, and the MOH staff came up with interventions upon discussing the following questions.
Group Discussion Questions
1. What is the current jigger’s situation in your CU and Ward?
2. Which interventions have been most effective?
– Please list the interventions.
3. What additional actions are needed moving forward?
