World Neglected Tropical Disease -Day is commemorated annually on the 30th ofJanuary. This year’s event was held at Esiandumba Primary School, Mwibona Ward, Luanda Sub-County, Vihiga County.
Vihiga County Ministry of Health organised this event, JICA-NUITM was invited due to the good relations and the progressive jiggers’ activities undertaken in the county.
The overall event organization was well done, many people came to get education on the Identification, prevention, and treatment of various NTDs, especially the most common ones among community members.

Jiggers are an issue of concern in this sub-county, both school pupils and adults were presenting with jiggers on their feet and hands, the affected persons were coming for treatment, and we realised there is need for strategic sustainable measures put in place to control/eradicate jiggers.
JICA-NUITM was able to conduct a short orientation on treatment for the CHPs at our booth, and later treatment was done to 40 pupils.
The Vihiga County Government was fully involved in the exercise as the CEC Health, Chief Officer Health and other County and Sub-County Health staff.
