JICA grassroots project thought it wise to upscale the jigger training to other Homa- Bay sub-counties upon realizing the progressive reduction of jigger cases in the Ndhiwa and Suba-south Sub-counties.

With this in mind, JICA-NUITM began conducting cascade training in other sub-counties of Homa Bay; this was after checking the data from the ground and being able to determine the existence of jigger cases.

The main aim of conducting these trainings is to map out and eradicate any existing jigger cases in Homabay County as more emphasis is put on WASH activities.

The cascade training targeted Public Health Officers (PHOs), Community Health Assistants (CHAs), and the sub-county officers to be the trainers.

Training for Trainers (TOTs) were as follows;

Suba-North -37 PHOs/CHAs 42 CHPs

Suba-West –13 PHOs/CHAs, 40 CHPs

Rangwe -50 PHOs/CHAs, 167 CHPs

The trainings were focused on the 3 key components; the identification, Prevention, and treatment of jiggers.
