
NUITM-JICA in collaboration with the Ministry of Health held a cascade refresher training for the County and Sub-county officials at the twin towers hotel and then later for all the PHOs, and CHAs at Ndhiwa and suba-south sub-county respectively.
The project’s main objective is to suppress the prevalence of tungiasis within 1% of the project area and effective control measures and scale up to the entire Homabay through surveillance, behavior change/health promotion, capacity building, and enhance sustainability
The main aim of this training was to;
- To assess the level of understanding of the CHVs on the prevention, treatment, and care practices on jiggers
- To give baseline survey feedback that was previously done.
- To demonstrate the treatment process and introduce the treatment of jiggers using NYDA.
- Issuing of certificates of completion for both initial training and refresher training
- Provision of key holders that serves as IEC material on the treatment procedure.
We were able to successfully train 514 CHVs in Ndhiwa and 285 CHVs in Suba-south from 8th June 2023 period to 18th August 2023.
The training entailed the following topics;
- Overview of jiggers e.g. key facts, identification, various stages etc.
- Baseline survey feedback on glaring indicators e.g. Discrimination of patients
- Discussion on MOH 514 and MOH 515 reporting tool.
- Conducting group work discussion on identification and being able to count, Alive fleas, Dead fleas, Manipulated fleas.
- Conducting group work on discrimination and how to curb it
- Showing various pictures and success stories on jiggers.
- Demonstration on treatment procedure.
