Academic Discipline and Expectations

The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Nagasaki University, invites applications for the position of Professor in the Department of Clinical Medicine, Unit of Clinical Medicine and Research.

In line with our mission statement below, the Professor will conduct research and engage in education in the field of tropical diseases, particularly infectious diseases prevalent in tropical regions. The successful candidate should have a record of outstanding research accomplishments, experience in teaching and clinical activities, and the capability to conduct and direct clinical field research. The Professor will be responsible for the development of the Department of Clinical Medicine with a mission to provide strong leadership in the department.

In addition to the research activities, the Professor will also be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Professor will be also responsible for the operations as the head of the Infectious Diseases Treatment and Prevention Center within the Department of Infectious Diseases at Nagasaki University Hospital, as well as for the management of the Institute as a member of two decision-making bodies called Steering Committee and Faculty Committee.

MISSION STATEMENT

The tropics, the most ecologically diverse region on the Earth, presents an ongoing complexity of tropical diseases and other health problems. In view of the remarkable advances made in the field of international exchange in recent years, it is imperative that these problems be addressed from a global perspective.


Based on this understanding, the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, aims to overcome tropical diseases, particularly infectious diseases, and the various health problems associated with them, in cooperation with related institutions, to strive for excellence in the following areas:


  1. Spear-head research in tropical medicine and international health
  2. Global contribution through disease control and health promotion in the tropics by applying the fruits of the research
  3. Cultivation of the researchers and specialists in the above fields

Notes

The shortlisted candidates may be requested to visit the Institute and give a presentation on their past research and future aspirations. Transportation expenses related to the candidate's visit are to be borne by the candidate.

The candidate must hold a Japanese medical license.

The employment is contract-basis for a fixed term. Reappointment is possible upon meeting the evaluation criteria.

To promote globalization, we actively consider candidates with overseas research experience who can teach classes in English.
