展望

スリランカの東半分、ベンガル湾に面した側は、乾燥地帯でありこの地域にはトクモンキーの3亜種のうちのMacaca sinica sinicaが生息している。 彼らはサルマラリア原虫のPlasmodium cynomolgiの自然宿主である。この地域に居住する住民からは熱帯熱マラリア原虫のほか三日熱マラリア原虫の感染も観察されている。 P. cynomolgiは系統学的に三日熱マラリア原虫に近く、ヒト感染も報告されている。 人獣共通マラリアの観点からもサル、マラリア、ヒトの調査をする意味がある。
