A Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices (KAP) survey has been conducted over the past 4
years at different times but within the same locality. The first and second rounds were
conducted in 2022 and 2023 respectively, and this year marked the third and final
evaluation. This year’s survey was carried out from 3rd July to 18th July 2025 in both Suba-
South and Ndhiwa Sub-Counties.
This survey was based on a baseline Survey conducted in 2021 at the beginning of the
project, which identified endemic and non-endemic areas. Ten primary schools from each
sub-county were selected, totaling 20 primary schools.
One of the objectives of the project is to promote sustainability among the residents. In
schools, JICA-NUITM has worked to encourage the integration of jigger-related awareness,
identification and treatment into existing health education activities. “Action Days,” led by
the Ministry of Health and implemented by Community Health Assistants (CHAs) in
collaboration with Community Health Promoters (CHPs), are regular health outreach
events.
The project team has advocated for incorporating jigger disease education and response
into these pre-existing activities.
So far, three rounds of KAP surveys have been carried out and appropriate interventions
have been implemented in these schools by the sub-County Ministry of Health(MOH).
