マレーシアのシンポジウム参加

活動概要

マレーシア大学サラワク校においてサラワク学校の理学部動物学教室が中心となって開催される人獣共通性感染症のシンポジウムに、Plasmodium knowlesiの研究で世界的に有名なシン教授が講演をするので、彼の話を聞き、話をするため、また、マレーシアではどのように人獣共通性感染症の研究を進めているのか確認し、さらにマラリア伝播が起こっている益田さんの調査地と油ヤシのプランテーションを視察するためにサラワクを訪問した。

P. knowlesiの研究に対してはヒトを対象の調査が終了し、現在は野性のサルの調査から可能調査研究に移行しているということであった。マレーシアの人獣共通感染は現実にサラワクで発生している感染症なので、研究者、保健衛生担当者も日本とは比べ物にならないくらいに意欲的に取り組んでいる。調査研究は修士課程の学生が担っている。教官学生ともに活動的な印象を受けた。共同研究の提案には好意的であった。

調査地域は企業による農地の買収とプランテーションの拡大が著しく、農村というよりも農業会社の従業員が居住地域であると感じた。産物の輸送の便のため国境地域まで広い道路が建設されている。
