デングウイルス
デング熱はデングウイルス（フラビウイルス属で血清型が1〜4 型まである） によって引き起こされる感染症で、通常5〜6 日の潜伏期を経て、突然の発熱で はじまり、激しい頭痛、関節痛、筋肉痛、発疹を伴います。ウイルスを保有して いる蚊（ネッタイシマカ、ヒトスジシマカなど）に吸血されることにより感染し、 マラリアと同様にアジアや太平洋諸島など熱帯亜熱帯地域に広く分布していま す。デング熱を媒介する蚊は空き缶などに溜まった水や竹の切り株に溜まった水 でも発生するため都会で流行することも多く、流行する地域全体で年間数千万人 の感染者が発生しています。特に東南アジア、南アジア、中南米において多くの 患者が報告されています。
西ナイルウイルス
西ナイル熱は節足動物を介してヒトに伝播する感染症で、フラビウイルス属の 西ナイルウイルスによって引き起こされます。鳥と蚊の感染サイクルによって維 持されており、主として蚊を介してヒトに感染し、発熱や脳炎を引き起こします。 日本での感染例は認められていませんが、ヨーロッパやアメリカなどでは流行し ています。北米では感染鳥の発病や死亡、ウマとヒトにおける流行、重篤な脳炎 患者の発生が顕著で、新興感染症・輸入感染症として注意が必要な疾患です。
日本脳炎ウイルス
日本脳炎は、主にコガタアカイエカによって媒介される日本脳炎ウイルスに よっておこるウイルス感染症で、ヒトに重篤な急性脳炎をおこします。日本脳炎 ウイルスはフラビウイルス科に属するウイルスです。
