BioMed Central will be a new publisher of Tropical Medicine and Health from January 2016

The TMH editorial office is pleased to announce that BioMed Central will be a new publisher of Tropical Medicine and Health from January 2016, which will continue as an open access publication as part of BioMed Central's portfolio (www.biomedcentral.com/journals/bysubject) of open access journals. The transition to BioMed Central's platform is in preparation. Until new BMC submission system is completed in September 2015, submissions to the journal can be made at the current site https://www.editorialmanager.com/tmh/default.aspx.

All new submissions will be subject to BioMed Central's portfolio wide policies, including those concerning article-processing charges (APCs). The APC for TMH will be €450 for JSTM members and €700 for non-members per accepted article up to the end of 2018. The APC covers the cost of the publication process, including peer-reviewing, editing, publishing, maintaining and archiving, and allows immediate access to the full text versions of the articles. A waiver is provided for authors from low-income countries listed here (http://www.biomedcentral.com/authors/oawaiverfund/).

Recruitment of Tenure Track Researcher

 Obihiro University of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (OUAVM) is now recruiting researchers for its Tenure Track Program.
 The Tenure Track Program is designed to help young and outstanding researchers, selected in a fair and transparent process, to obtain stable faculty positions at the university after gaining experience in a self-reliant environment under fixed-term employment contracts.
 This program contributes to the development of young and brilliant researchers, as well as to the enhancement of research activities at the university.
 The tenure track researcher will belong to the National Research Center for Protozoan Diseases (NRCPD) and be provided with a suitable work environment for independent research. They will be evaluated in their final year (the fifth year) and be offered a stable faculty position if they pass evaluation.
 If you apply for this program, please read carefully the following application guidelines.

1. Job Title: Tenure Track Associate Professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor

2. Number of Positions: 1

3. Starting Date: Before March 31, 2013 (as soon as possible)

4. Qualifications: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. 1) Applicants should have obtained a Ph.D. degree within the past ten years (by January 21, 2013). 2) Applicants should be under the age of 43 on January 21, 2013. 3) Applicants must not have ever been employed such as a researcher for the Program for the Promotion to Improve Independent Research Environments for Young Scientists under the former Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology, and must not have received any subsidies for this program (such as personnel costs or research funds). 4) Applicants should have extensive experience and achievements in the research field of protozoan diseases. 5) Applicants should have outstanding research strategy and skills on diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of protozoan diseases. 6) Applicants should have an ability to conduct international cooperative research on diagnosis of protozoan diseases as a part of their research projects. 7) Applicants should have an ability to perform advanced research on haemoprotozoan diseases as a part of their research projects.

5. Treatment (Salary, Insurance, etc.): University employment regulations are applied in accordance with each researcher's particulars.

6. Research funds (upper limit):
Approx. 10 million yen for the first year (from the day of arrival at the post to March 31, 2013)
Approx. 5 million yen for the second year (from April 1, 2013 to March 31, 2014)
Approx. 3 million yen annually from the third to fifth years (from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2017)

7. Research facilities: NRCPD provides research facilities (such as laboratories) for independent research.

8. Screening procedure
1) Primary Screening:
 The screening committee, consisting of the faculty members of NRCPD, evaluates applicants’ research and educational activities strictly and fairly from the provided application materials. (If necessary, an interview will be done.)
2) Secondary Screening:
 The Tenure Track Program Committee under the President of OUAVM, consisting of internal and external researchers, decides the final candidate by comprehensive evaluation based on the results of primary screening. (If necessary, an interview will be done.)
3) Through all the screening procedures, the current and past supervisors of the applicants are excluded.

9. Information about recruitment policy 1) Mid-term evaluation will be done in third year (autumn, 2014) 2) Final evaluation will be done in fifth year (autumn, 2016) 3) OUAVM promotes gender equality, so we will employ female researchers, if applicants demonstrate equivalent experiences.
