The Department of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (PID) is a recently expanded department of the Institute of Tropical Medicine. We work on a wide range of diseases with special attention on pediatric infectious diseases including pneumonia, diarrhea, dengue and malaria. Our research interests include integration of clinical and environmental epidemiology at international, national and local levels.

  • School of Tropical Medicine and Global Health (TMGH) and London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) will start new Joint PhD program in October 2018.
    The Joint PhD students will engage in collaborative research projects between TMGH and LSHTM and will be co-supervised by the faculty members of both schools.
    The list of the collaborative research projects for doctoral research is now uploaded on the school website. Applicants who wish to be enrolled are expected to choose one of the projects. The details are available on the following websites.

  • Dr. Lay-Myint Yoshida held a press conference with Prof. Kouichi Morita, the Dean of NEKKEN, and Prof. Shigeru Katamine, the President of Nagasaki University, on 19th November, 2015 and announced that they will start a research to evaluate PCV schedules in a naive population in Vietnam. It came out in NHK evening news (19 Nov 2015), Nihon Keizai Shimbun (19 Nov 2015, the evening edition), the Nagasaki Shimbun (20 Nov 2015), and Nishinippon Shimbun (20 Nov 2015).

  • A Kick-Off Symposium for "Development of an Infectious Diseases Early Warning System for Southern Africa incorporating Climate Predictions (iDEWS)", a five-year project supported by the Japan's Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) Programe, was held on 5th August in Pretoria, South Africa.
