A paper titled "Mortality Associated With Pulmonary Hypertension in Congenital Rubella Syndrome", Pediatrics, 2014; 134:2 e519-e526, led by Dr. Michiko Toizumi, PhD student of the Department of Paediatric Infectious Diseases, was selected as the Best English Paper at the 67th annual meeting of Kyusyu Paediatric Society.

Hussein Abkallo of the Malaria Unit, Department of Pathology, received the Best Student Oral Presentation Award at the1st African International Biotechnology & Biomedical Conference held in Nairobi, Kenya on the 12th of September. His winning talk was titled "Quantitative Whole Genome Sequencing And Genetic Linkage Analyses to Identify Genes Controlling Virulence in Malaria Parasites".

【August 11, 2014】
A Kick-Off Symposium for "Development of an Infectious Diseases Early Warning System for Southern Africa incorporating Climate Predictions(iDEWS)", a five-year project supported by the Japan's Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) Programme, was held on 5th August in Pretoria, South Africa. The project is aimed at developing a climate-based early-warning system to improve the infectious disease controls including malaria in Limpopo province.
