Application Guidelines
  1. Academic Discipline and Expectations

    The Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University has been conducting research pursuing the vision described in the Mission Statement below.

    The Institute currently has an open position for Professor of the Department of Bacteriology. “The candidate with outstanding competence and academic portfolio is expected to act as the global leader for research on bacterial infectious diseases rampant in tropical regions.” The new professor shall exercise strong leadership in the Department of Bacteriology (Basic Bacteriology, Clinical Bacteriology, etc.) and dedicate him/herself to broaden its scope. The selection board, therefore, will prioritize distinguished result of international collaborative research performed in tropical regions.

    The successful candidate will also be involved in the Institute’s management as a member of Board of Professors, and teach under/post-graduate and other programs.


    The tropics, the most ecologically diverse region on the Earth, presents an ongoing complexity of tropical diseases and other health problems. In view of the remarkable advances made in the field of international exchange in recent years, it is imperative that these problems be addressed from a global perspective.

    Based on this understanding, the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, aims to overcome tropical diseases, particularly infectious diseases, and the various health problems associated with them, in cooperation with related institutions, to strive for excellence in the following areas:
    1. Spear-head research in tropical medicine and international health   
    2. Global contribution through disease control and health promotion in the tropics by applying the fruits of the research   
    3. Cultivation of the researchers and specialists in the above fields
  2. Employment commences after January 2020.

    D) Copy of the ten most significant publication in academic journals.
    E) The plan and vision you will peruse if you are offered the position. Maximum 2 pages or 1000 English words, whichever is less.
    F) Up to three references with name, organization, and contact information.

  7. The shortlisted candidates would be asked to give a lecture as a part of the selection process.
