The Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS) is a system for systematically and continuously monitoring trends and conducting health-related surveys and research in “limited areas” where there is no official system of civil registration and vital statistics. This system is called the Health and Demographic Surveillance System (HDSS). The Institute of Tropical Medicine, Nagasaki University, has been operating the HDSS in Kenya.

We’ve started the registration of the population in the target area in Kwale County. Since September 2021, the household and its members’ information is being collected using Open Data Kit (ODK) Collect, an open-source offline data collection tool.
