On September 15, 2022, at a side event of the 8th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 8) organized by Nagasaki University, NGO Rocinantes, and Friends of WHO JAPAN (supported by the Cabinet Office, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Digital Agency, JICA, and the Lion Standing Against the Wind Fund Foundation), the results of a research project at Kwale about the WIRE (Women and Infant REgistration) System development and newborn biometrics research were presented.

The side-event was conducted online, and presentations were made from Kenya and other African countries (Cameroon, Sudan, and Ghana). It was decided to establish a consortium to discuss the digitalization of Maternal and Child Health Handbooks and Mother-Child registrations.
