On Thursday, August 18, we held a “Bubbles to Change the World: Measures against Sinomi: A Special Talk with Teenage Inventors.”

“Jiggers” is one of the neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and is an infectious disease caused by parasites. It has become a serious health and medical issue in Africa and Latin America.

In response to this, the Fine Bubble Lab. team at Sasebo National College of Technology has developed a device that responds to jiggers with “bubbles”. The idea was presented at the GCON (GIRLS SDGs × Technology Contest) for female students of technical colleges which was held for the first time in 2021, and won the Audience Award.

JICA Kyushu, who gave advice on development, and Professor Kamiya of the Nagasaki university have organized a special talk event inviting four members of the Fine Bubble Lab. team to the University.

On the day of the event, the participants also connected with the NEKKEN Kenya Center, which is implementing a project to combat jiggers through JICA Grassroots Project via Zoom as well as the Health Department counterparts in Kenya.

After giving presentations on their new initiative, we held an exchange of ideas for the future. We have high hopes for a new form of international cooperation among young inventors that solves social issues through new innovations.
