17th DECEMBER 2011(SATURDAY)

Self-guided tour to National Park or eco-tourism areas in Borneo

Outline

The symposium was held in University of Maysia Sarawak. Prof.Balbir Singh, who is a famous researcher of P. knowlesi with his wife, gave a lecture on Plasmodium knowlesi. Aims visiting Sarawak was to know his works and methods, activities of UNIMAS on zoonoses as well as to visit research site of Dr. Masuda.

Prof. Singh told that he finished the study of P. knowlesi infecting human. He studied monkey infection and change subject from host infection parasites to mosquito infection parasites. Researchers and students devoted themselves more intensively to zooneses than Japanese because zoonses occur frequently. The symposium was stimulating and fruitful to us.

They welcomed proposals of collaboration from oversea researchers.

Oil-palm plantation was looked a factory. Small plots for villagers were seldom to be seen in villages.

Opening ceremony. After praying, the gong was hit for epening sessions. Participants came together for a group photo. Slide of emergency by anthrax.
An expert gave questions to a speaker. A girl student presented ecto-parasites. Slide showing co-infection with human and monkey malaria parasites in one mosquito.
Lecture by Prof. Singh. Impressive. Oil palm, a wide road and a red car. A station for palm oil. A rotten smell is not coming from this pic.
Auto recoding system for climate on the truank. Moantain on the border between Malaysia and Indonesia.
