活動報告

Ron Marchand氏がベトナム・カンフーにおける19年間に亘るマラリア調査とマラリアコントロール 詳しく紹介した。この活動はカンフーに調査基地を置き、住民の健康改善を図る息の長い活動で、今後のマラリア対策ばかりでなく、住民自身が中心となって生活改善を行う際に、参考と成る点が多々あった。
Tiengkham Pongvongsa氏がラオス・ベトナム国境地域に置けるマラリアの実態を解説した。Pongvongsa氏はラオス・サバナケット省保健局の職員でベトナム・クワンチ省の予防衛生局の職員と協力し、Marchand氏が属するMedical Committee of Netherlands and Vietnamと門司プロジェクトの応援を得てマラリア調査をマラリア調査を実施し、興味深い事実を見いだした。国境マラリア調査時に採取した住民の血液サンプル中にサルマラリア原虫のPlasmodium knowlesiが検出されたのでPongvongsa氏の発表を前野芳正、中澤秀介両氏が補足をした。P. knowlesiの解析結果は、現在検討確認中であるが専門誌に発表される。

会議後、住民の暮らしぶりや生活環を理解するために、ラオス・サバナケット省セポン群の病院、ヘルスセンター、集落を訪問した。病院では検査室を訪問して最近の状況を聞いた。同様に、国境を越えたベトナム側でも、クワンチ省タン村、シー村のヘルスセンターを訪問し担当者に住民がヘルスセンターを訪れる理由を詳しく聞き、集落を訪問した。サルマラリア原虫が検出されたと考えられる両国の村はセポン川を挟んで指呼の間である。ラオス側の村々はアクセスする道路の状況が悪いので調査はベトナム側から川を渡って行われた。今回の視察もラオス側の村へは行けず、ベトナム側から臨んだのみであった。
住民の生業は農業と森林資源の採取である。斜面にバナナ、キャッサバ、米が栽培されていた。他に、コーヒー、胡椒等が見られた。
