On 15th of December 2017, An UHC forum official side event, Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs): Driving progress towards UHC will be held by Nagasaki University co-hosted by Uniting to Combat NTDs, St. Luke’s International University and DNDi Japan at Tokyo Prince Hotel, Tokyo Japan.
Twelfth of December is designated as the international UHC (Universal Health Coverage) Day. Achievement of UHC is one goal of sustainable development (SDGs) promoted strongly by the Japanese government. In accordance with the day, UHC Forum will be held on December 13 and 14 in Tokyo, organized by the Government of Japan. Before and after the forum, several official side events are planned on 12th and 15th on the same venue of the forum.
Our official side event focuses on UHC and Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) spreading among poverty in developing countries, because NTD control drives progress towards UHC among the poorest of the poor.
This official side event of the UHC Summit will launch the 5th report on progress against the 2012 London Declaration on NTDs as well as a new NTD advocacy coalition for Japan with the goal of increasing Japan’s support for NTDs.
The first panel from 10-10.55 will focus on the 5th report, and include a keynote from Dr. Tedros and the official launch of the report by Mr. Naito, CEO of Eisia, one of the major drug companies in Japan who donate drugs to the NTD program.
The second panel, from 11-11.55am, will focus on Japan’s role in NTDs, and will acknowledge the contributions today of Japan to the fight against these awful diseases and discuss towards the formation of a new NTD advocacy coalition to strengthen Japan’s role in NTDs.
